What Past Love Would You Invite?

“There is always one love in our life that slips away before we can say everything that needs to be said—good and bad. And that’s why we’re here today,” said Lottie.

“Every year, we choose three people and bring them together with a lost loved one on the summer solstice, which is June twentieth,” Mo said. “This year we’ve chosen you, Bix Anderson. All you have to do is give us the name.”

“You walk into the field. Stay five minutes, stay all night. Work it out, talk it out, go off with them, never see them again. It’s all up to you. But, you end it . . . happily ever after or just plain good-bye. On your terms.”

“And how will you find this lost love?” Bix asked in shock. “And are you detectives?”

“Oh, Maggie used to work for the IRS. Mo spent twenty years with the NYPD. Emily was a hairdresser. Zid worked for an adoption agency. Tammy used to work for the IRS. Priyasha over there was secretary to the governor of Illinois. I’m the mayor—and just damn nosy,” said Lottie. “We call ourselves the Badass Book Club. Average age seventy-five. We’re done reading. We prefer real-life love stories.”
